How Much Glass Do I Need?
For Your Fire Pit
The amount depends on personal preference and desired flame appearance but a general guideline for covering a burner with approximately 1 1/2" of glass is as follows:
18" inside diameter 20 lbs. 24" inside diameter 40 lbs. 30" inside diameter 60 lbs. 36" inside diameter 80 lbs.
To find exactly how much glass you need: Multiply the diameter in inches by itself(diameter). Then multiply that by the depth of glass(inches). Divide that number by 231. Then multipy that number by 0.8 and then multiply again by 12 for the total pounds of glass needed.
For your Fireplace Floor
To find out exactly how much glass you need: Multiply the front width (inches) x depth (inches) x fill level usually 3" to 4" inches of glass. Divide that total by 231 and then multiply by 12 to get your total glass in pounds.
Other suggestions: Fill fire pit or fireplace with lava rock. Then use glass on top of the lava rock to save money and alow more oxygen to the flame.
